itty bitty party committee halloween look. valley.

once again cake & valley have partnered with the fabulous duo of the itty bitty party committee for some all hallows eve looks. since halloween falls on a work day we've styled two looks that are office (and happy hour appropriate) but are not specifically classified as costumes. it can be quite the uncomfortable situation when you're the only one at your office who arrives in full on costume. so if you're not into that specific situation, then perhaps you can get some inspiration from us on how to take a few key pieces from your closet that can make a perfect appropriate, spirited, and festive halloween office look!!

yesterday's look was a non-witchy witch outfit while the today's look is a non-boo ghoul get up. so, get scared and prepared for some halloween looks. when we styled these looks we were adamant that each piece we picked be something that we did not buy in a halloween store or costume shop. these two looks are not the only way to dress up for halloween without having to wear a costume but they might just be the most fun. when brainstorming for your look just make sure to be creative and maybe a little scary too.

valley has layered on the white to get the ghouly look for her halloween office attire. pulling off this look is a great time to grab one of your favorite white dresses that you tucked away after labor day, the summer-y the better, you really want it to flow!!! valley's is a light chiffon dress & it even has a little cap that floats behind her as she walks. if you have a white coat or cardi make sure to layer these over the dress too. next grab any skull detailed items you might have, thick opaque black tights, and a blood red ring to top off this scream worthy look.  now valley just needs to float in and out of all the offices, flicker a few lights and she'll be giving all her co-workers the ghostly chills!!

happy halloween-eve.

today's look is a non-witchy witch outfit while tomorrow's look is a non-boo ghoul get up. so, get scared and prepared for some halloween looks. when we styled these looks we were adamant that each piece we picked be something that we did not buy in a halloween store or costume shop. these two looks are not the only way to dress up for halloween without having to wear a costume but they might just be the most fun. when brainstorming for your look just make sure to be creative and maybe a little scary too.

cake's non-costume witch look is the combination of fall style and the traditional halloween colors black & orange. as you can see she chose a long skirt, boots, and a high neck top which are enough witch details to give a magical visual representation. no need for the pointy hat or the broom! to step up her look cake added some extra chic items; a black fur muff and a rhinestone collar necklace. one last minute addition of a leather peplum belt makes sure to ensure an ultra modern chic feeling. now all she needs to do is give a few sideways glares & mutter a few words under her breath and everyone at work will be under her witchy spell!

stay tuned for valley's look tomorrow.

black & gray. cake.

what better way to end the week then referring to the first post from this week! for today's look, cake drew from valley's monday look; where she suggested wearing gray as a great fall color! well, her advice was inspiring & cake is looking good! nothing like a humble brag, right?!?! HA!

we mean, take a look for yourself :)

alright, chick-a-dee-s, it's friday!

black & navy. valley.

boyfriend jeans & BF blazer.
there's definitely a new trend going on in the fashion blog-a-sphere and it has a little something to do with showing everyone how to wear black & navy together. a think one very powerful woman or magazine once said you couldn't wear these two colors together & then everyone started to believe this false statement.  the good news of the day: the tables are starting to turn. we mean, look how good the colors are together?!?! both bold & powerful neutrals complement one another so effortlessly that when you pair them together you'll have an instant classic chic look.

hope this all makes sense and you feel empowered to now proudly wear your navy & black together!

fall colors. cake.

black chucks.

neon was a big hit this summer, right?!? so, why does the fun have to stop there? we think that the neon trend can easily transition into some great fall looks. it's just important to remember to keep the other hues cool & casual- just like the fall mood.  a head to toe neon look might make you look a little too desperate for summer to return and we're just heading into the good part of the fall/winter season! halloween candy is just around the corner!!!!!!

hope you all had a great monday & keep on truckin' through your tuesday!!

olive green oxfords.

a great fall color that isn't red, orange, yellow, burgundy . . . etc is gray! don't get us wrong, all those other colors are perfect for this time of the year but another color to add to your fall wardrobe rotation is gray. it an amazing cool tone neutral that can easily transition you from fall into winter, it pairs well with almost every other color, and it's great on lots of skin tones.  just take a look at how valley styled her long gray maxi into an easy fall look :)

hope you like & happy monday.

green wide leg trousers.

isn't this place where we're taking pictures amazing! it's actually right under an "L" stop in valley's neighborhood.  we were also able to catch the perfect light!!! sometime when the sun is setting it can be tricky to get non-shadowy pictures. scouting places to take pictures is one of our favorite things to do. we both keep a running list (we take photos on our phones) of where we can take pictures. ninety-nine percent of the time we take the pictures as we're on our way to grab coffee or a meal or to meet up with friends. the only time we actually set up a photo shoot is when we're doing a styled look as a collaboration. {like here, here, here & here}

we like to keep our readers on their toes . . . so we try really hard not to reshoot in places but are there some reader favorites we should head back to so we can take more pictures? let us know :)

valley blending in with the fall sunset shadows & colors.

last week chicago experienced, what we would call, an indian summer. it reached almost 80 degrees, which for chicago, in october is a miracle!!! {we've seen snow by this date some years} with the warm weather we lived it up as the last chance to wear our short sleeved tees & summer wedges to dinner with some friends. of course we had to take our jackets too because the weatherman predicted a 30 degree drop by the end of the sunset; and boy was he right. the midwest can be one tricky s.o.b.

the famous saying goes, "if you don't like the weather here in the midwest, just give it thirty minutes, it will change!" ha. so true.

that's all we've got for today.
happy monday.
make it a great one.
